Independent of the club is the supporters’ union, Spirit of Shankly, set up at a dark time for Liverpool when there were strong concerns about the ownership of the club – concerns that time showed were well founded. The country’s first supporters union, the SoS continues to operate today on issues that might not be quite as dire for the future of the club seven years later but are still important to those impacted.
